Michael Allen Ott: Music

Wild Stampede

(Michael Allen Ott)
Michael Allen Ott

verse one

We rounded up cattle on old ten mile draw,

had to get 'em delivered before the snow fall,

so we drove 'em hard down an old Texas trail.

We were runnin' fast into Abilene to meet that new rail.

On so many cattle, we hadn't planned,

so when they stampeded it just got outta hand,

We couldn't turn 'em so we stopped to pray,

'Cause they were goin' across the meadow

where the school children play.

chorus

Wild stampede on the old Texas trail.

When they'll stop runnin' no one can tell.

If you can't turn 'em then you'd better pray,

Lord have mercy on anyone who gets in their way.

verse two

Well the children couldn't move, they were too struck with fear,

Then between them and the cattle a cowboy appeared.

He had a hat made of silver and boots of pure gold.

On a big snow white stallion He sat there so bold.

He threw a lasso of fire around that leadin' steer's head.

That herd stopped in their tracks as if they were dead.

He turned to the children and told them "Dont fear." and he yelled at us old cowpokes "Hey, Yall come over here!"

verse three

He said, "My Father's kingdom is just like children this small.

Unless your humble as they, you'll never see it at all."

So on tremblin' knees we all fell to pray,

then back into heaven, well, He just rode away.

chorus

Wild stampede on the old Texas trail.

When they'll stop runnin' no one can tell,

if you can't turn 'em then you'd better pray.

Lord have mercy on anyone who gets in their way.

And the Lord showed His mercy on the children that day.
