Michael Allen Ott: Music

Born an Outlaw

(Michael Allen Ott)
Michael Allen Ott

verse one

I hid behind a big rock in the purple sage.

I rode out on the trail to rob the friday stage.

I couldn't wait to get that gold and silver in my hand.

What I got was more than I had planned.

There was an old gray preacher man riding on that stage.

He said "you're in a lot of trouble for a lad your age.

As a young man I went walking in the boots your standing in.

Then I met one who rescued me from sin."

chorus

He said "I was born an outlaw.

Always runnin' down the devil's trail.

God rescued me and set me free

and saved my soul from hell."

verse two

So in anger I drew out my sixgun bound to do him in.

It wouldn't fire although i snapped it time and time again.

That preacher never flinched so i just laid my pistol down.

I fell on my knees crying on the ground.

chorus

I cried "I was born an outlaw.

Always runnin' down the devil's trail.

God rescue me and set me free

and save my soul from hell."

verse three

That preacher man came over and kneeled beside me as I cried.

He told me of a saviour who in my place was crucified.

He thanked the Lord in heaven that once again his life was spared.

Then he picked up my sixgun and fired six rounds in the air.

chorus

He said "I was born and outlaw.

Always runnin down the devil's trail.

God rescued me and set me free

and saved my soul from hell."
